Being a full-time executive spouse (or wingspouse) is not different from any other career. Some choose this path. Others do not. If you want to be a successful wingspouse, you have to be professional, trustworthy and genuine. Your product is either marketable, or it is not. Customers either like you, or they do not. But who is the customer in your case? As the wife of an executive, your most important customers are your spouse, your spouse’s boss, and co-workers. Their attitude toward you can significantly impact your spouse’s career.

I remember being asked (during one of my husband’s past interviews) if I was willing to accept the “First Lady” role. I laughed at the time, naive to what that really meant but later I understood. My interaction with others has the potential to keep a customer happy or leave them wanting to return the product (my husband being the product). My role as the wife of a C-suite executive is not a whole lot different from the position held by any US Presidents’ wife, although I have never met the queen. The wingspouse role, however, is a powerful one.

In order to successfully market yourself and your product, you need to be resourceful. How can you present yourself as having the qualities that reflect well onto your spouse? First, you have to figure out what makes you different from the next First Lady. What is your “wow factor” and how can you apply it to your partner, employer and community? One of my niches is selling a community. I do not agree to move anywhere unless I know I will be happy, so once I am settled, I enjoy sharing what I think is so wonderful. My love for the community and pride in the schools is what adds value to my husband’s responsibility for recruiting other physicians. I am often invited to dinners with new candidates and their wives, and I usually volunteer to take them around the community the next day. I enjoy playing a part in my husband’s success, and my “customers” remain quite pleased. I was even once invited to dinner to meet the top three candidates who were hoping to become my husband’s new boss. Shortly after, when the new CEO was announced, I was eager to help the new CEO’s wife settle into the community.

She was an impressive woman with a realtor’s license that was not going to do her much good short term. So I set out to make her feel comfortable, telling her what I knew about the dynamics of the community. I was quickly humbled when six months later, she was putting in a good word for me with a local service provider and was hired as the President of the Chamber of Commerce. You can probably figure out what her “wow factor” is.

What do you have to offer that makes you special? What do you want your customers to say about you when you are not there? What skills do you want to learn along the way? When you answer these questions and focus your energy there, you are well on your way to a successful career as a wingspouse. Your product will be more desirable and your career will be a satisfying one.

With corporate awareness on brand identity value increasing day by day, logo designs are hard to be missed. Each year we see tons of new and fresh logos evolve, conglomerates and mergers taking place and numerous redesigns happening.

Some designs are regarded as the best logos of the year while several face severe censure from the design community. Some of them are criticized for their exorbitant prices, while others are refuted on visual grounds. Following is a list of 10 most talked about logos of 2010.

Bausch + Lomb: Jan 2010

Designer: Pentagram

In the new Bausch + Lomb identity, the plus sign becomes a translucent medical sign that communicates that “Bausch + Lomb” is willing and committed to partnering with the medical community.

Skittles: Feb 2010

Designer: Miles Newlyn & Dragon Rouge Agency

The Skittles logo was widely acclaimed as a pleasant transformation to a multi-colored tongue concept coupled with the brand’s slogan, “Taste the rainbow.”

UBUNTU: Mar 2010

Designer: Canonical Design Team

The popular format of LINUX underwent a major redesign this year, the new identity is a concept of “circle of friends,” an icon showing three abstract human figures coming together to form a whole.

Yellow Pages Logo April 2010

Designer: TAXI agency.

The Yellow page logo redesign was first handed over to the logo designer David Airey who gave a shot at the Walking Fingers. The job was later assigned to TAXI agency.

EU Organic Logo: April 2010

Designer: Dusan Milenkovic

The EU Organic logo was obtained through a logo design contest. Winner Dusan Milenkovic, a student from Germany received €6,000 (US$8,145), while the second and third place collected €3,500 (US$4,750) and €2,500 (US$3,395) respectively.

Dodge: May 2010

Chrysler recently unveiled a new logo for the Dodge brand, featuring the Dodge name with a pair of red racing stripes, “suggesting speed and agility,”

Google Logo: May 2010

Designed by: Ruth Kedar

The new Google logo came as a part of the redesign of the search experience, with the removal of only the drop shadow from the previous logo.

Wikipedia: May 2010

Designer: Philip Metschan

The Wikipedia puzzle globe logo was again modified this year. The actual 3D construction of the new mark was executed by professional 3D animator, art director, and graphic designer, Philip Metschan

FIFA 2014: June 2010

A few days ago, Brazilian websites published what will allegedly be the logo of the World Cup 2014. However, nothing was informed by the officials as the logo will be officially presented only on July 10th 2010.

BP: In the course of a redesign

The hottest topic under the spotlight is the BP logo redesign, held by Greenpeace UK. It is in reaction to the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico that the NGO is holding a logo design contest to redesign the real image of the BP logo.

You may be thinking, “You’re crazy, I can’t do that!” but all of those things on your list will be there when you get back. But when you get back you’ll also have something else – clarity – which will help you tackle everything with a much clearer head.

I recently took some down time from my business, and it was the best thing I could have done. I practiced extreme self-care and it was the first step of several I took that eventually tripled my income. Here are a few of things I recommend to start taking care of yourself, which will in turn take care of your business.

1. Look at your calendar, pick a day and write in huge black letters O-F-F! This is not going to happen unless you mark it on your calendar and make it part of your schedule. Then when the day comes, do something for yourself to create some space. I got a massage, went shopping and bought myself some new clothes. I did not work.

I’ve really come to view appointments with myself as the ones I need to be the most mindful and most respectful of. So if you’re feeling like you’re overwhelmed, look at your calendar right now. Even if it’s three or four weeks from now, mark it down and focus on yourself.

2. Find an activity other than work to enjoy. I added a new level of exercise to my life. I was already doing cardio a few times a week, but I really wanted to step it up a notch. I wanted to add more strength to my body, so I added Pilates. And the cool thing about it was that I had to make a several month commitment to it. I prepaid for six months and it’s been great. One time I had just made a huge business decision and I was so stressed, but then I went to class and it helped me get back into my body and reaffirm that I had made the right decision and this was what I was supposed to be doing.

3. Be mindful of what’s going into your body. I’m not talking about dieting here, but being aware of what you’re putting into your body and how it’s making you feel. I started to pay attention to what was giving me energy and what was affecting my moods. If I’m stressed out about work and feeling turmoil, I don’t want to be feeling physically down as well. That’s just a bad combination, and I think we as entrepreneurs need to be at the top of our game. It’s not like we get to go into a cubicle and check out!

A few of the other things I did were to focus on sleep and I also got more bodywork (chiropractic) done. Do whatever works for you, whether that’s massage, meditation or breathing work.

If you’re attracted to conscious marketing and you’ve been guided to read what I have to say, you’ve probably at some point done many of these things or more, but maybe you’re not doing them now. I invite you to revisit them, and take time for yourself, and you will see positive results in your business.

Creating a big sign for a special occasion is part of the fun of having a party or a sale. The best way to send a big message is to make a big sign – a banner. Banners are usually as long as they need to be to deliver the message. Height is usually 18 or 36 inches tall. Used for a variety of events, they are traditional in appearance with light colored backgrounds and bold lettering. They are mounted in a visible place for everyone to see. This includes vehicles driving by a business or hung in a park for people to find the right place to go for an outing.

Announcements
People won’t know something unless they are told. If a store is having a grand opening, making a banner to announce it is one way to let them know. A special sale is cause for pause. When potential customers are aware of a sale, they are more likely to stop in an establishment. Custom signs should be posted for at least a few days to give people a chance to come in when they have time. The same banner can be used over and over for each sale if it is not specific to dates or holidays.

Homecoming
For military personnel, coming home after a long absence is worthy of a banner announcing their return. Whether there is a barbecue, picnic or just an intimate family gathering, hanging a sign outside of the residence or the party location is sure to make the returning military person feel welcomed and appreciated for serving their country. The banner can read something as simple as “Welcome Home.” It is also an opportunity for family members to share the good news with everyone who has been supportive in the person’s absence.

Special Events
Banners are a reliable way to advertise exhibits or events coming soon. There may be a beach volleyball tournament or carnival planned for the following month. Expos are another event that need advertising. The signs can stay out through the end of the event. Putting up a banner stand rather than a hanging sign is one way to attract attention. These are usually double-sided and can contain the same amount of information on both sides of the sign. For variety, a banner stand placed at the main doors of a convention center or outdoor event can feature two different messages. One side of the sign can have a welcome message to greet people on their way in and another thanking them for coming on their way out.

It is very hard to do anything in the UK without a bank account. Without a bank account, the very simplest of tasks become very complicated. Like it or not we are a society that has, for many of its most important transactions, dispensed with cash almost entirely; your employer will need, for instance, to pay your wages into a bank account, and paying your bills without a cheque book or debit card can be almost impossible.

So, we know that we have to use a bank account, but with the recent behaviour of many of our banks we may be feeling a little sheepish at the thought of having to choose between what often seems like a bad bunch. Choose we must however, and whether we are looking for our very first current account, deciding to switch to a different bank or opening a second or third account to spread our finances around, ‘just in case’, the truth is that despite recent issues, the UK does benefit from a great breadth of choose when one is looking to open an account.

We obviously don’t just want an account that will keep our money safe from moths and mice, pickpockets and burglars, and that provides us with ways to pay our bills, most of us are demanding enough to also want an accountant that gives us something back for the use of our hard earned cash, and plenty of those competing for our business are happy to do just that. Everything from cheap insurance to free cinema tickets are waved in front of us in the hope of grabbing our attention; in truth though, it is important not to let these baubles distract us from what we should be looking at and that is fees.

Most banks still offer fee-free current account facilities in the UK, but this does mean that they have to get that money from somewhere else, in fact it is probably truer to say that there is no such thing as truly fee-free banking in the UK as all banks will apply ‘charges’ to current accounts for everything from going over an overdraft limit to having a direct debit collection attempt made when your account has too little in it to pay out. Until recently most banks were making an absolute fortune in this manner; some still are; it is therefore very important to find out how much your prospective bank charges for administrative matters and compare, some will be higher than others.

In their rush to show just how great they can be, many banks are offering almost bespoke current accounts where one can pick and choose from a long list of services that may or may not be of use; gone are the days when you had to take what you were given and like it; austere black cheque books are being replaced by jazzy shades of pink and funky designs for the student market, which may not be of interest to all, but it is still true that the more choice a bank can offer you, the better; if you need excellent online facilities, but never use a cheque book, it helps that they can provide you with either/or.

Essentially today’s high street banking world is one of great choice and so it is important to make the most of this, don’t plump for the first one you find, shop around and get what you want before you commit to a choice.

Many organizations approach ethics by sponsoring an occasional one or two hour training session for their employees. It is almost as if we treat ethics like an inoculation: one shot and you are good for life! What we know about learning, however, is that it takes continued exposure to new material for it to become integrated into employee knowledge and behavior. The same principle is true also of ethics. This short article will suggest ways that ethics can be integrated into your existing employee processes.

Begin at the beginning: Include ethics in your recruitment and selection materials and processes. If the ability to reason through ethical problems is a part of the job, why not mention that fact in the position advertisement? As well, including simple ethical reasoning examples in the job interview can give you insight into your candidates’ ethical thinking as well as emphasize the importance your organization places on ethics.

Start employees out in the organization right: Include ethics information in the employee orientation materials. This may include a review of agency codes or state laws especially relevant to your agency as well as policies related to common ethical issues. These ethical issues will vary from organization to organization, but may include: the receipt of gifts, use of organization autos, computers or other equipment, financial disclosure requirements and nepotism rules. If your organization has whistle blower protections, include a review of those protections as well as information about how to report any ethical problems they encounter. Our employees get “oriented” to our organizations with our without our direction. Why not choose to set our employees on the right track from the beginning and add ethics to your orientation?

Keep employees talking about ethics: Integrate ethics into ongoing discussions in your agency or organization. Perhaps an employee newsletter can feature an “ethics column” that discusses common ethical dilemmas faced in your organization. Discussion of potential ethical dilemmas in work groups can help supervisors guide employees through ethical situations. As a manager, you may be blissfully ignorant about how your employees are “solving” ethical dilemmas. If you assume that everyone in your work group is reasoning the same way, you are likely to be unpleasantly surprised!

Finally, focus on ethics in training and development. Encourage supervisors and employees to identify additional ongoing training about ethics and make attention to ethics part of employee annual performance and development plans. Attention to these factors will help integrate ethics into all your organizational processes.

Considering the number of sites on the internet and the different types of advert strategies being employed it can be very difficult to determine which sites apply an effective PPC advertising strategy that results in improved traffic at a modest cost. Taking a chance on any advertising strategy or platform may result in a huge loss of time and material resource but we can always have a look at the following top sites to take our cue from them. Google AdWords is amongst the leading advert sites in the world though it is quite expensive placing an advert on this platform it is the toast of most people because it generates the highest traffic online.

It is instructive to note that increased traffic to a particular site makes no business sense if it does not lead to a sale or conversion. So you must ensure that the advert you are placing leads to a sale and the cost is also right if not you will be very upset at the prospect of doing business with Google. It is advised that you try out your adverts at modest rates before going for the big league campaign.

The MSN Adcenter is one advertising platform that is considered amongst the top performers but has failed to live up to expectation when in competition with the likes of Google and Yahoo for obvious reasons. Although this platform attracts great traffic what makes it rather out of place is the fact that it is rather cheap and lacks competition. These qualities however make it an ideal prospect for any good PPC advert operation.

Yahoo search marketing just like Google has a terrific ability to attract traffic to their site but their short coming remains the fact that the cost of operating on the platform is quite expensive so most people are naturally put off. However, before you get really upset with the outcome of your investment here it will be a good idea if you tried out a more affordable platform to get the most effective results.

Searchfeed is not in the class of the top most web advert sites but is known to be a wonderful place to try out your adverts at reasonable cost. Apart from increasing traffic to your site, the conversion rates are also known to be appreciable when the type of traffic you desire starts flowing in. Looksmart just like Searchfeed do not have so much competition so in order to make up for this lapse their prices are modest in order to attract prospective clients.

The site is a good PPC advertising option because of its ability to make some good conversion from the traffic it is able to attract. One of the critical factors that have aided PPC advert system is the ability to develop and experiment on new ways of doing things. It is in this view that we advise that you try out series of PPC links although it is best if you start with modest links and work your way through to the top and gain experience which is invaluable.

Guerrilla marketing is a term used to describe unconventional marketing tactics, particularly those with low cost or no cost, which rely on time, energy and imagination rather than a big marketing budget, so they are ideal for the cash-strapped small business in the present economic climate.

The idea is to target customers in unexpected places, in unexpected ways, to get maximum results from minimum resources and create a unique, engaging and memorable brand experience.

Here are just 10 innovative marketing ideas to get you started:

1. Run a competition to win advertising space on your site. This is a no-cost prize you can use to market your website: free for you but valuable for others.

2. Leave your business card in unexpected places: for instance pop one inside every book in an appropriate section of the local library.

3. When you visit the doctor or dentist’s surgery, leave a business card inside each magazine in the waiting room.

4. Add your website’s URL to the signature of each email account you use, so it appears on every email you send (personal or business) with an additional comment if appropriate.

5. Give a free product/service to the stylists at your local hairdressers’ or barbers’ – they will tell their clients all about this crazy person who gives things away.

6. When you see a restaurant or bar collecting business cards in a bowl, to win a free meal or bottle of champagne – ask if you can have the losing cards. That will give you dozens of new contacts.

7. Run a fake publicity stunt – for instance, get a group of students or friends to hold a demo outside your premises with placards reading “This business (your name) is too nice!” or any crazy message you choose.

8. Offer to run free demonstrations related to your product or service at local events or venues – maybe your village hall, or library, or community centre could do with an interesting event to fill up their schedule.

9. Borrow a wall (get permission from a neighbouring business), and project an image of your business/advertisement on it overnight.

10. Carry a pad of brightly coloured post-it type notes advertising your business wherever you go. (They can be hand-written if you can’t afford to get them printed.) Stick them up in unusual and unexpected places – inside the doors of lavatory cubicles or on the urinals; next to the lift buttons in shops or offices; if you write on the back of the notes you can stick them on car windscreens in car-parks, so the driver will see the message when they get in the car.

With the financial crisis having a cascading effect on the global economy, the job market has turned gloomy. The competition has increased to such an extent that even though we give a good performance in an interview, the interviewer selects the best out of the best! So we have to train ourselves to become the best in any job interview. Knowing how to prepare for a job interview therefore becomes very important.

Your requirement is always for an excellent career. In this competitive environment, the candidates have shown their ability, potential and extraordinary skills of communication to grab the job they desire. Being mentally fit and having an alert mind are important factors to do well in an interview. Mental preparation is another key factor for a successful interview. If you end up in an interview unprepared and blank, you will obviously end up failing and getting negative results.

Here are a few important things to consider about how to prepare for a job interview to come out with flying colors:

1. Remember to use non-verbal messages than words. As soon as you enter the interview room consider and remember few important points like:

- Handshake – enter the interview room and greet your interviewer, give a firm shake hand with a pleasant smile and style. Appear confident and impressive. Don’t get nervous and shy. Introduce yourself.
- Sit in an erect posture. Don’t fidget with hair, nails, pen, tapping feet etc. Stay calm and sit erect with your hands on the table.
- Maintain eye to eye contact instead of looking down or in some other direction. Be comfortable and calm; set yourself in a comfortable position. Listen to whatever is said and asked by the interviewer and answer with a smile. All this is a very important part of learning how to prepare for a job interview.

2. Avoid nervous mannerism. Everyone feels nervous in an interview, but be sure that you are calm and cool. Your nervous expressions can have a negative impact on the interviewer and will show lack of confidence within you.

3. Speak with a clear tone and voice. Make a friendly approach. Be clear and concise. You should speak in a grammatically correct language and the tone you speak in should be impressive. Always clarify what you say, and speak in a way that is easy for the interviewer to understand. Be sure that you don’t fumble.

4. Be positive in your approach and do not give negative commands. Pump up your energy level and enthusiasm before you get ready for an interview.

5. You can question the interviewer and clear all the doubts. Don’t keep questioning continuously ask few but important questions. Do not monopolize the interviewers more time. Be particular, don’t question about the salary and benefits that will anyways be offered to you after joining respective job.

6. While answering the questions to the interviewer, be concise and clear, don’t make stories, speak what is required and expected, provide examples and explanations, if required. Being honest and speaking factually is another important part as far as knowing how to prepare for a job interview.

7. After the entire meeting and discussion is over, say thanks and follow up to know the status of your job. If you get a negative feedback don’t get disheartened. Not getting disheartened is another part of how to prepare for a job interview. Start preparing for the next interview and stay motivated enough to perform better.
